Gestural-Auditory-Visual Instruction (GAV Instruction)

  • GAV stands for Gestural-Auditory-Visual and is a multimodal instructional method that utilizes the child’s senses to increase print and sound recognition, as well as improve articulation.

  • Our interdisciplinary approach combines the researched and proven methodologies of Speech-Language Pathology and Applied Behavior Analysis in small group settings with Pre-K students. We subscribe to this method as it is applicable in inclusionary settings with both typically developing children and children with developmental delays. Learning styles can vary from student to student based on preference or ability, and our method removes the need to differentiate by delivering instruction utilizing this multisensory approach.

  • Literacy skills developed and acquired in Pre-K correspond with academic performance throughout the student’s school career. Without these foundational literacy skills, students are more likely to read below grade level, increasing their likelihood of high school failure, poverty, and crime. Our program provides the fundamentals for literacy so children may enter kindergarten and continue into elementary reading at grade level.
